Wedding is a centrally located borough of Berlin that enjoys excellent traffic and transportation connections to the eastern and western sections of the city. Formerly a working -class industrial district, it has evolved to become an area that is home to modern service businesses, science, research and culture. Supportive of this evolution, is the location of the pharmaceutical company, Bayer (formerly Schering) in the district. Meanwhile, the district’s main street, Müllerstrasse, has managed to maintain its position as one of the many central points in the city.
Traffic / Parks/ Shopping
Traffic: Wedding is served by several subway (U6, U8, and U9) and S-Bahn –suburban- (S1, S2, S41/42) train lines that link it to the eastern and western parts of the city. In addition, there is a streetcar connection between Prenzlauer Berg and Wedding (line M13 to Seestrasse in Wedding). The Autobahn, the A100, terminates at Seestrasse. One can use it to drive quickly to the western part of the city. Yet another important transportation link in Wedding, is the Gesundbrunnen railway station, which since the summer of 2006 is the stop for long-distance and regional (RE3, RE5, RB20, RB66) trains. It is also known as a "gate to the north". Current plans call for a new S-Bahn track, the S21 that will link both the S-Bahn Station Wedding and the S-Bahn Station Westhafen to the city’s central station. However, completion of this track is not expected before 2017.
Parks: Although Wedding is highly developed, and as a result is populated with many old buildings, it has several pretty and roomy parks. Among the well-known ones are Volkspark Rehberge, Goethe -and Schillerpark, as well as Hmboldthain, and Mauerpark. Not to be overlooked is the beautifully landscaped green space along the Panke river.
Shopping: Leopoldplatz and Müllerstrasse are the principal shopping locations in Wedding. Playing supporting roles are Badstrasse and Brunnenstrasse (Gesundbrunnen Center). A secret tip: independent fashion labels can be found in the Center.
